Mac tips

 dscacheutil -flushcache

LVM

Initialize the device

pvcreate create a volume, fdisk type 8e

pvcreate /dev/hdb1 can use entire disk if you want

vgcreate my_volume_group /dev/hda1 /dev/hdb1 - put as many disks/partions etc into the group

After rebooting the system or running vgchange -an, you will not be able to access your VGs and LVs. except most systems do this automatically

To reactivate the volume group, run: Only needed to activate on the fly

vgchange -a y my_volume_group

to remove groups Deactivate the volume group: vgchange -a n my_volume_group, then you can remove the volume group: vgremove my_volume_group

to add disks (don't forget to pvcreate them) vgextend my_volume_group /dev/hdc1
